Former Collingwood midfielder Sharrod Wellingham and ex-Western Bulldog Josh Hill have saved their AFL careers, with their hot form earning them new deals at West Coast.
Wellingham was lured to the Eagles on a lucrative three-year deal at the end of 2012, but his career was at the crossroads after injuries and poor form blighted his first two seasons in the west.
However, the 27-year-old premiership midfielder has flourished since moving into defence this season, with his strong form helping the Eagles surge into second spot.
Wellingham has played every game this season, although a slight ankle injury has put him in doubt for Sunday’s clash with the Crows in Adelaide.
Hill’s career also appeared destined for the scrapheap after managing just seven goals in nine games last year.
But the former Bulldog has made the most of his chances this season, booting 34 goals in 17 games to establish himself as a vital part of the club’s forward line.
Two weeks ago, Hill won the Ross Glendinning medal for his four-goal haul in the western derby win over Fremantle.
And he followed that up with another four-goal effort in Sunday’s 77-point demolition of the Bulldogs.
West Coast also announced they had re-signed emerging big man Fraser McInnes, who played seven games earlier this season while Jack Darling was out with a foot injury.
McInnes will miss the rest of this season because of a hamstring injury.
West Coast didn’t reveal the lengths of the new deals for Hill, Wellingham and McInnes.
