It’s all on the line for the Eagles and Hawks in their Optus Stadium clash on Saturday night. The Eagles are playing for a chance at a top two finish and home finals throughout the finals series and the Hawks need to win to find themselves in the top eight on Saturday night.
A one goal loss to the Tigers at the MCG last round will give the Eagles plenty to think about ahead of the finals, with both sides playing well at the home of footy. The Hawks disposed of the Suns by 70 points, with their late season revival putting them well and truly in the finals frame.
Hawthorn will need to win and the Dogs to lose to leapfrog them on the table, with the Hawks holding a 1 per cent advantage on the Dogs, but a game behind the Bullies.
In their round 15 meeting, West Coast kicked the last couple of goals to sneak home by a goal in a wet encounter at the MCG. The Hawks have played just once at Optus Stadium and won that match a season ago. They are 5-3 straight up away from Melbourne this season, while the eagles are 9-2 at home, but they have covered just five times in those 11 home games.
The Hawks have shown plenty of spirit recently and The Wolf thinks they’ll more than make a nuisance of themselves against West Coast. If the Cats win earlier in the day, the Eagles top two chances are all but over and they might take the foot off the peddle ever so slightly.
