West Coast will be eager to restore some pride when they take on Essendon at Optus Stadium this Good Friday, after a disastrous start to their 2025 campaign. The Eagles have slumped to 0-5 for the first time in club history, most recently suffering a 121-50 thrashing at the hands of Carlton during Gather Round. They managed just 77 contested possessions in that match — the lowest recorded in the league this season — and are currently losing by an average margin of 59.2 points per game.

Essendon, meanwhile, moved to 2-2 following a convincing 96-57 win over Melbourne, with captain Zach Merrett racking up 37 disposals and Jye Menzie contributing four goals. The Bombers also had the edge over West Coast in both clashes last year, claiming a 122-92 victory at Marvel Stadium and a narrow 77-71 win in Perth. Merrett averaged 28.5 disposals and kicked four goals across those two games, helping Essendon to extend their winning streak against the Eagles to four.
