Key North Melbourne pair Daniel Wells and Nathan Grima are poised to return to action for the Kangaroos’ last pre-AFL finals hit-out against Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.
But Kangaroos coach Brad Scott emphasised that they would be the only two possible changes to the side which slumped to a 53-point loss to Fremantle last weekend.
Scott said the team would be given a chance to redeem themselves ahead of next month’s finals.
“We learnt some valuable lessons last week against Fremantle, some things we’ve got to fix up,” Scott said on Wednesday.
“We’re fortunate we’ve got another week before we go into the finals to get those things right.
“I doubt we’ll make any changes and if we do there will be minimal changes to the side this week.”
Scott said the Kangaroos do not have the luxury of making wholesale changes simply as a reaction to the Fremantle loss.
“We’re not in a position where we can look at resting players,” he said.
“We’re going into a knockout finals series so our attitude is, let’s get the things we need to get right right this week and it’s full steam ahead into the finals.”
Wells could return from his calf injury to North’s midfield while Grima, who has hamstring tendonitis, may be brought back into defence.
“(Wells) is one who we would obviously bring in if he’s fit,” Scott said.
“He’ll train little bits and pieces today and train fully with us on Friday.
“We’ll probably make a decision later in the week but there’ll be absolutely a no-risk policy with him.
“Grima’s in the same boat as well.”
Scott said that both players had made “really rapid progression” over the past three days.
“Ideally we’d like to play them so we won’t be holding them back if they’re 100 per cent right to go, but we’d be silly to take a risk,” he said.
