Wellingham accepts three-match AFL ban

Collingwood’s Sharrod Wellingham has immediately accepted a three-match ban handed down by the AFL’s match review panel for breaking the jaw of Carlton’s Kade Simpson.

Simpson was knocked out by a leaping Wellingham while attempting to take a mark in Friday night’s round-15 clash with the Magpies at the MCG.

Players have until Tuesday to accept or contest charges, but the Magpies have already accepted Wellingham’s ban in a statement on their website.

Wellingham was charged with a level-five, rough-conduct offence. However his good five-year record reduces the sanction to three games with the guilty plea.

Geelong’s Brownlow Medallist Jimmy Bartel has been offered a two-game ban for striking Gold Coast’s Trent McKenzie.

Richmond’s Matt White can accept a three-game suspension for a front-on bump against Melbourne’s James Frawley.

White has also been offered a reprimand for striking Luke Tapscott.

Essendon midfielder Heath Hocking has been offered a two-match suspension for rough conduct against St Kilda’s Lenny Hayes, the same for West Coast’s Luke Shuey for striking North Melbourne’s Lindsay Thomas.

Melbourne’s Lynden Dunn and West Coast’s Quinten Lynch have been offered one-game bans for striking and tripping charges, respectively.

Melbourne’s James Frawley can accept a reprimand for striking Richmond’s Robin Nahas, while Collingwood’s Jackson Paine has also been offered a reprimand for tripping Carlton’s Mitch Robinson.

Greater Western Sydney’s Jeremy Cameron can accept a reprimand and 93.75 points towards any future charges for striking Hawthorn’s Clinton Young.

The match-day report against St Kilda’s Justin Koschitzke for engaging in rough conduct against Essendon’s Courtenay Dempsey was dismissed.
