We deserve to host NAB Cup Grand Final: Adelaide Crows

Adelaide are lobbying AFL powerbrokers to host the pre-season cup grand final, saying they deserve a home play-off.

Adelaide thumped Collingwood by 77 points on Friday night to remain undefeated in their four cup games.

The Crows will play West Coast in the pre-season decider if the Eagles retain their unbeaten status with a win over St Kilda in Perth later Saturday.

But Adelaide maintain their superior percentage, and top spot on the cup ladder, mean they should host the final.

“You would think that we qualify as the top side so we probably deserve a home final,” Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson said.

“And we will be pushing for that.

“I know (Crows) management is very keen for us to host the game.

“We would get a huge crowd and I know South Australian footy would come and cheer their boys on.”

Sanderson, yet to lose as the Crows’ head coach, said Adelaide would strive to win the pre-season competition.

“We will do our very best to have success – I know the fans want it, the players want it,” he said.

“So we will pick a strong side next week.

“But we’re obviously still looking to fine-tune our game plan for the remainder of the season.”

Sanderson said he would be grappling with a selection squeeze, with only 22 players to be picked for the final rather than the extended squads available in past games.

“That is going to be really difficult,” he said.

“We have had young players play really well and experienced players hold up their end of the bargain.

“There are probably 38 guys who deserve to play.”
