Walsh set to be Crows coach: Koch

Phil Walsh is reportedly set to be named as the new head coach of AFL club Adelaide.

Walsh is currently assistant coach at Port Adelaide and Port’s president David Koch has indicated the deal has been done for Walsh to take over at the rival club.

“We wish him well to take on the big job,” said Koch in his other role as a host on the Seven Network’s Sunrise program.

“We feel very flattered that the Crows come to us for their senior coach.”

Walsh has been favoured to take the top job since a short list of candidates made their initial presentations to the Crows. He jumped ahead of other contenders Brendon Bolton from Hawthorn and Sydney assistant Stuart Dew.

“It’s good testament to our football department,” said Koch.

“It’s more than one person of course – we’ve got Kenny Hinkley, ‘Nicksy’ (Matthew Nicks) and Josh Carr, so it’s a very good team.”
