Voss joins Port Adelaide coaching panel

Former Brisbane mentor Michael Voss has joined Port Adelaide as the midfield coach of the AFL club.

Voss will replace Phil Walsh, who has been appointed head coach of the Adelaide Crows.

Voss, sacked as Brisbane coach in 2013, says the Power job was too good to pass up.

“The brand of footy played under (head coach) Ken Hinkley and the continued growth of the club over the last two years has been very impressive,” Voss said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I was committed to media for another 12 months but, in the end, Port Adelaide presented me with an opportunity too good to refuse.

“I can’t wait to get started and begin working with an emerging, exciting and hungry midfield group.”

Port chief executive Keith Thomas was thrilled to lure the triple premiership captain to the South Australian club.

“His record as an elite midfielder for Brisbane is legendary and his five years as the senior coach of the Brisbane Lions will be enormously valuable,” Thomas said in a statement.
