Veteran Tigers earn new AFL deals

Richmond have signed veteran pair Bachar Houli and Shaun Grigg to new AFL deals.

Houli has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension that ties him to the club until the end of the 2018 season, while Grigg will remain at Punt Road next season after signing a one-year deal.

Both players quickly became AFL regulars under coach Damien Hardwick after joining the Tigers ahead of the 2011 season.

Houli, 28, couldn’t cement a senior spot in four seasons with Essendon and Grigg, also 28, was in and out of Carlton’s team for four seasons before moving on.

Houli has 148 games to his credit, while Grigg has taken his career tally to 166 senior appearances.

Hardwick faces a tricky off-season as he looks to reshape his playing list following a horror 2016 campaign.

After contesting three elimination finals in succession, Richmond made a poor start this year and never recovered, sitting in 13th spot courtesy of just eight wins with one round left.
