Van Berlo accepts AFL charge, but no ban

Adelaide captain Nathan van Berlo has decided against contesting a striking charge against him, accepting the first blemish on his record in his eight-year AFL career.

Van Berlo was adamant on Monday that his contact on Brisbane’s Tom Rockliff during Saturday’s match at the Gabba was accidental and there was little he could have done to avoid it.

He planned to discuss the low category charge laid by the match review committee with club officials to see if it was worth challenging in a bid to keep his clean record.

However, on Tuesday he accepted the penalty of a reprimand and 45 carry-over points.

It means the AFL tribunal will not sit this week.
