Two SA AFL clubs strike revised Oval deal

The AFL predicts its two SA clubs will share more than $10 million in extra revenue from the revised financial deal for Adelaide Oval.

The league has announced that Adelaide and Port Adelaide have reached a new agreement with the SANFL for revenue sharing at the venue.

The redeveloped Adelaide Oval was a massive win for the AFL last year, but the two clubs quickly became unhappy with their financial returns.

One of the conditions of their stadium deals was that they would be reviewed after the first season.

The Crows and Power moved from AAMI Stadium to Adelaide Oval last year.

The AFL said the revised arrangement means they will share an estimated extra $3.1m this year, rising to $4.1m per season in 2016 and 2017.

“Port Adelaide is looking forward to continued strong support from fans and members at our games in 2015 and we are pleased that this support will translate into solid financial returns for our club,” said Power chairman David Koch.

Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman also welcomed the new deal.

“Our loyal members and fans have taken their support to another level since we arrived at the new stadium and we were compelled to achieve the best possible outcome to ensure the club continues to prosper,” he said.

SA Football Commission chairman John Olsen called the new deal a good outcome for all parties.

“We are now in a position where football in South Australia has a springboard for the future,” he said.

The revised deal will mean the bigger the crowds, the higher the financial return for the Crows and Power.

The two clubs will also have more reserved seating income.

AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said the revised deal would mean a fair share of income for the two clubs and local football.
