Treloar lifts Giants to new AFL record

Greater Western Sydney midfielder Adam Treloar on Tuesday became the sixth Giant to be nominated for the Rising Star Award, which is an AFL record.

Treloar had 37 possessions in last week’s round-18 clash with Collingwood at Sydney Showgrounds, which the Magpies won by 20 goals.

Opposed to Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury (33 disposals), the former Dandenong Stingray gathered 18 kicks and 19 handballs, grabbing nine marks and kicking a goal.

Treloar, 19, is averaging 19.9 disposals in his 14-game career.

The other five Giants players who have been nominated are Jeremy Cameron, Tomas Bugg, Stephen Coniglio, Dylan Shiel and Toby Greene.

The previous record of five nominations was held by Essendon in 1993 and Fremantle in 1996.
