Treloar lashes out at nonsense rumours

Emerging AFL star Adam Treloar says speculation linking him to Collingwood is nonsense, claiming he’s eager to stay at GWS and expects others to join him in re-signing.

Victorian-born Treloar would be hot property on the open market, as will be fellow out-of-contract GWS stars Dylan Shiel, Will Hoskin-Elliott and Stephen Coniglio.

On Thursday night, Channel 9’s The Footy Show reported the Magpies were keen to snare Treloar on a lucrative five-year deal.

But Treloar moved quickly to quash that speculation, with the 22-year-old hinting a deal with GWS would be sorted soon.

“I did hear about that (Collingwood link) yesterday. But that’s just all speculation,” Treloar said ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Coast in Perth.

“That’s just media doing what media does best in making stories up.

“Once it all gets settled down we can end that speculation because it’s all nonsense.

“I am very happy here. I love the Giants.”

GWS managed only nine wins across their first three years in the competition.

But a maiden finals berth looms this year following the team’s hot 3-1 start to the season.

Treloar said he and the club’s fellow emerging stars were keen to see the job through.

“What we’re really building here is a winning culture. It’s been tough for us early days being a new team,” Treloar said.

“But it’s really important in 50 years’ time we can look back and say we were the ones who set the foundation.

“And there’s a lot of players here that I reckon will re-sign in the next couple of weeks.

“Dylan Shiel, Will Hoskin-Elliott, Stephen Coniglio are also others out of contract but … they’re going to want to be here for a very, very long time.”
