Ricky Petterd was upgraded to Richmond’s senior list on Tuesday, almost five months after teetering on AFL oblivion when he was delisted by strugglers Melbourne.
Petterd, the former forward who has reinvented himself on the Tigers’ half-back line, is likely to play his first AFL game with Richmond when they tackle Carlton at the MCG on Thursday week.
The 24-year-old was one of seven rookie-listed players who were elevated on Tuesday.
Ruckman Orren Stephenson, discarded after one season with Geelong, was promoted to add further depth to the Tigers’ ruck stocks.
Collingwood also added two players to their senior list – Ben Hudson, who is poised to add to a 161-game career at his fourth club, and defender Jack Frost.
Western Bulldogs’ Brett Goodes, the brother of Sydney’s dual Brownlow Medallist Adam, is now one step closer to debuting in round one at the age of 29.
Carlton midfielder Ed Curnow and Brisbane key defender Justin Clarke were also promoted on Tuesday.
While 13 clubs opted against upgrading any player ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, there is still hope for the likes of Sydney’s Dane Rampe and Geelong’s Mark Blicavs.
Rookie-listed Rampe and Blicavs, both in the running for round-one selection, can be promoted at any time as replacements for teammates on the long-term injury list.
Meanwhile, expansion clubs Greater Western Sydney and Gold Coast both opted to activate early compensation draft picks this year.
The Giants’ first-round selection is the compensation pick for the loss of Gary Ablett, which was traded from Geelong to Gold Coast in 2010, then shipped to GWS in 2011.
The Suns’ end-of-first-round pick is compensation for the loss of Nathan Bock, a selection which moved from Adelaide to Richmond before landing on the Gold Coast in 2011.
