Punters have reacted to the news that Lance Franklin is set to sign with the Sydney Swans by cutting the 2012 Premier’s odds of winning the 2014 Premiership from $7 into $5.50 at Sportingbet.

Sydney is now a clear fourth favourite behind Fremantle ($4 out to $4.50), Hawthorn ($4.50) and Geelong ($4.85 out to $5.00).

“Within minutes of the GWS tweet, we were hit with a wave of bets for the Swans,” Sportingbet Australia spokesman Andrew Brown said.

“In a one hour period, we took four-times more bets for the Swans than the total wagers we’d taken for them since opening the 2014 market after the grand final on Saturday,” Brown said.

Greater Western Sydney’s odds of being 2014 AFL Premier have drifted from $451 out to $501 at Sportingbet.

“While everyone else was backing the Swans, one of our punters kept his faith in a Buddy-less GWS, and put $20 on them for a potential $10,000 win,” Brown said.
