Sydney midfielder Luke Parker is set to be passed fit for Saturday’s elimination final while Lance Franklin is also expected to return against GWS.
Parker and Franklin, who are both recovering from groin injuries, were sorely missed during the Swans’ final-round loss to Hawthorn at the SCG.
Coach John Longmire indicated earlier this week he is confident both stars will return against the Giants this weekend.
Parker trained with the main group on Thursday, moving freely in a fashion that suggests he is a likely starter.
Franklin was on restricted duties at the SCG session. However, that has been the norm throughout a season in which he has nursed an ankle injury.
“They’ve got to get through training (Franklin and Parker),” vice-captain Dane Rampe said, when asked about the duo’s chances of facing GWS.
“We’ve got a short session today, so if they get through that they should be right.”
Sam Reid, who hasn’t played AFL since April 7 because of quad and achilles injuries, is still pushing his case for a recall.
However, it’s likely Reid will return via the NEAFL rather than being rushed back in a knockout AFL fixture.
“Yeah (Sam Reid’s tracking) pretty well,” Rampe said.
“He’s probably the same (as Franklin and Parker). If he gets through training he will definitely put his hand up.
“Obviously, you’ve got to weigh up whether you can bring three blokes in who have had a couple of weeks off.”
The Giants are expected to regain a stack of fit-again stars this weekend, including forward Toby Greene.
