Swans easily beat Saints

Sydney blitzed St Kilda in the second half of their AFL pre-season cup match to win by 30 points at Etihad Stadium on Friday night.

The Swans kicked seven goals to two after half time in the mini-match to win 9.5 (59) to 4.5 (29).

Their round-one fixture on Friday night also features Geelong.

Onballer Jude Bolton starred for Sydney with 13 possessions and three clearances, while co-captain Adam Goodes and first-year player Harry Cunningham kicked two goals apiece.

Swans key forward Sam Reid was impressive, especially in the first half, and has clearly put on some muscle over the summer.

New St Kilda coach Scott Watters had his team playing on and kicking more, but once Sydney settled they were able to catch the Saints on the rebound far too often.

The Swans kicked six unanswered goals from 15 minutes into the first half.

An obvious plus for St Kilda was the return of veteran midfielder Lenny Hayes, who needed a knee reconstruction after round two last season.

Hayes only had five possessions but, as usual, fearlessly attacked the ball.

Second-year player Tom Ledger impressed in the midfield and newcomer Ahmed Saad kicked a goal.

St Kilda had a break before the late round-robin match against Geelong.
