Swallow hands over Kangaroos AFL captaincy

North Melbourne skipper Andrew Swallow has confirmed he will hand over the captaincy for the 2017 AFL season.

Swallow made the announcement at the club’s Syd Barker club champion dinner on Friday night in front of more than 900 people.

The 29-year-old was first appointed captain in 2012, leading North to three finals campaigns in his four seasons as skipper, including two preliminary-final appearances in 2014 and 2015.

The Kangaroos will appoint their new captain and leadership group in the 2017 pre-season.
