Suns gun denies Melbourne AFL switch claim

Gold Coast midfielder Jaeger O’Meara has denied a report suggesting he is eager to move to a Melbourne-based AFL club.

News Corp Australia claimed on Wednesday O’Meara was keen on a switch to the Victorian capital when his Suns deal expired at the end of the season.

The report revealed O’Meara had recently bought a property in Melbourne with his girlfriend and said he’d instructed his manager to seek a move to a new club.

But the 21-year-old, sidelined for the entire 2015 campaign due to a serious knee injury, says he’s given no such instruction and is only worried about making a successful return to the Suns’ line-up this year.

“I’ve told him (manager Colin Young) to wait and let me do my thing and get back to playing footy and feeling good about my body again,” O’Meara told AFL.com.au.

“I don’t want him speaking to any other clubs.

“I’m not about that and I’d like to think I’m a loyal person and I’m not interested in speaking to other clubs at this stage.”

The Suns met O’Meara’s management on Wednesday in the wake of the reports.

Football manager Marcus Ashcroft said the club was willing to wait until the 2013 Rising Star was happy with his fitness before opening negotiations with the West Australian product.
