Gold Coast have confirmed Matthew Primus as an assistant coach at the AFL club.
The former Port Adelaide coach, who was sacked by the Power with four games remaining this season, will take up a midfield coaching role with the expansion club.
Primus played 157 games as a ruckman for Fitzroy and the Power during his playing career and Suns’ football manager Marcus Ashcroft said the 37-year-old would also work with the club’s talls ahead of the 2013 campaign.
“We are thrilled to confirm that Matthew has accepted an assistant coaching role,” Ashcroft said in a statement.
“He brings considerable experience and we believe he has a significant amount to offer our club.
“Matthew’s ability to educate and develop our ruckmen and key position players, as well as working with our midfield group ensures our playing group will benefit from the best possible tuition as we continue to develop our list.”
Primus is the third backroom appointment for the Suns since the end of their 2012 campaign with former Adelaide high performance manager Stephen Schwerdt and Geelong conditioning expert Paul Haines also joining the club.
Primus will join the Suns for their altitude training camp in Arizona at the end of next month.
