Suns’ AFL coach feels Ablett corner turned

His AFL form has hardly been terrible but, when you’re Gary Ablett, good just isn’t enough.

After an average start to 2016, the Gold Coast captain delivered some of his trademark influential form on Saturday in the second half of the Suns’ 38-point loss to North Melbourne.

Ablett returned from a first-quarter cork to his calf to finish the game with 28 disposals and a fourth-quarter goal.

It wasn’t his best display but Suns coach Rodney Eade believed a corner might have been turned for the dual Brownlow Medallist.

“He played a different role with that corked calf, he played that high forward and I thought he was just starting to find his touch again,” Eade said.

“If there was a corner, I thought he maybe turned it tonight.

“He’s not like us mere mortals – he’s at a different level.

“I thought he was pretty good tonight. I thought he played a good captain’s game.”
