Stynes steps down as Demons president

Melbourne president Jim Stynes has resigned from his role at the AFL club as he continues to battle cancer.

The Demons confirmed Stynes’ resignation on Wednesday at their annual general meeting.

Stynes became president in 2008 and a year later was diagnosed with cancer.

The board is set to elect current vice president Don McLardy in the role.

The packed AGM gave Stynes a standing ovation after his resignation was announced.

Stynes had more surgery on Wednesday and did not attend the meeting.
