St Kilda Saints vs Hawthorn Hawks Preview
The Saints have had a week off to get their heads straight following back-to-back losses to Brisbane and Melbourne.
After sitting top four only two weeks ago, the Saints are suddenly in danger of sliding outside the eight, but they do have a chance to return to form this week against a Hawthorn side that has hit complete rock bottom.
The Hawks were the victims of the previously winless Crows on Tuesday in a performance that left a lot to be desired.
Alastair Clarkson refuses to believe a rebuild is imminent, instead falling back on his “cycle of footy” theory.
The Hawks are battered and bruised, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see some young faces lineup with the team playing on short rest.
That should inspire some much-needed confidence, but it probably won’t be enough to get the Hawks over the line against a well-rested Saints outfit.
This is also Hawthorn’s first look at Metricon (and Queensland) this season.
The wide-open Gold Coast ground takes some getting used to, so just about everything is working in the Saints’ favour here.
