AFL News:
Adelaide is bracing to lose All Australian onballer Matt Crouch to a hamstring injury suffered in their victory over Richmond.
Crouch, vice-captain Rory Sloane, defender Daniel Talia and utility David Mackay were all casualties in the Crows’ 36-point win on Thursday.
Crouch will have scans on his hamstring injury and is expected to miss around three weeks.
Sloane reported a minor foot injury while, Talia hyper-extended his right knee but returned to play out the game.
Mackay was concussed in an incident involving Tiger Josh Caddy certain to attract match review scrutiny.
“That is nature of the game, you’re going to have setbacks,” Crows coach Don Pyke said of the injuries.
“Given the circumstances and given the couple of injuries on the way through, their ability to really dig and get that win, and the way we won, can only be good for our group.”
Adelaide’s Josh Jenkins kicked five goals, including four in the first half, in the Crows’ 18.10 (118) to 12.10 (82) win.
Jenkins has spent the summer widely panned for his poor performance in Adelaide’s grand final loss to Richmond last summer.
“His first half in particular was outstanding and it’s great to see, it’s great reward for the work he has been doing,” Pyke said.
Pyke hailed the victory, after his club was forced to deny some players had complained about a mindfulness camp in the pre-season.
“For us, it was pretty much white noise,” Pyke said.
“But you never know from a coaching viewpoint, you don’t know how much of that infiltrates into players’ minds.
“We’re a a really proud group, our guys. They have won a lot of games of footy in the last two years and they came with some real resolve.”
Pyke expected forward Tom Lynch (virus) to press for selection against St Kilda next Saturday night while experienced midfielder Richard Douglas will return from suspension.
