Simpson wants Mr Burns to stay at Eagles

New West Coast coach Adam Simpson says he’s keen for Scott Burns to stay on as an assistant at the AFL club.

Simpson beat out Burns, Peter Sumich and Leigh Tudor for the Eagles’ top job.

The former Kangaroos skipper replaces John Worsfold, who announced his resignation last month.

Burns has been an assistant at West Coast since the start of 2009, and has been tabled an offer to stay on in the role.

The former Collingwood captain was disappointed to miss out on the head coaching role, and is assessing his options.

Simpson, who was part of the coaching team that led Hawthorn to this year’s flag, said he was eager for Burns to stay at West Coast.

“I’d love him to stay,” Simpson said on Friday.

“We understand his situation and what he’s been through in the last week. We’ll have conversations in the next 24 hours.”
