Sicily earns AFL Rising Star nod

James Sicily’s match-winning performance has earned the Hawthorn forward the latest AFL Rising Star nomination.

The 21-year-old utility kicked a career-high five goals in Friday night’s nine-point win over North Melbourne.

After three games last year, Sicily has played all 13 games this season.

He and fellow forward Tim O’Brien have become increasingly important to the Hawks, given Jarryd Roughead will not play at all this year.

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson said they are pleased with Sicily’s development.

“His most natural position is up forward, but he’s also been playing down back over the last few weeks and adding another string to his bow.

“Our depth is a great feature of our club and it is pleasing to see our younger players, including James, taking their opportunities at a senior level.”
