Selwood back in AFL for Eagles

West Coast’s Adam Selwood has fought his way back into the side for Sunday’s AFL top-of-the-table clash with Sydney as the veteran prepares for a possible match-up with Adam Goodes.

Selwood, a premiership player in 2006, was dropped to East Perth last week and gathered 34 disposals in his first game for the club for five years.

The 168-game veteran played 10 AFL matches this year before missing two games with an arm infection then being told by the Eagles to earn a recall via the WAFL.

Selwood’s return is part of four changes for West Coast, with Tom Swift, Mitch Brown and Brad Sheppard also recalled.

Quinten Lynch and Luke Shuey are suspended while Josh Hill has a hamstring injury and Murray Newman has been dropped.

Ladder leaders Sydney named defender Marty Mattner on the interchange bench and dropped Tony Armstrong.

Hawthorn’s Coleman Medal pacesetter Lance Franklin (hamstring) is out of the side for Sunday’s game against Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium, while Shane Savage has been dropped.

The Hawks are boosted by the return of premiership players Shaun Burgoyne and Brad Sewell.

The Bulldogs regain Rob Murphy, Ryan Hargrave and Tom Williams for his first game of the season at the expense of injured trio Mark Austin (thigh), Easton Wood (adductor) and Tom Campbell (soreness).

Greater Western Sydney included rugby league convert Israel Folau among six changes for Sunday’s game against Adelaide at Sydney Showgrounds.

Ruckman Jonathan Giles has been left out while Dean Brogan returns to take on Adelaide big man Sam Jacobs.

Tom Scully, Luke Power, Steve Clifton and Sam Darley also return for the Giants.

Tim Mohr, Tomas Bugg, Adam Tomlinson, Andrew Phillips and 34-year-old James McDonald have all been omitted.

Adelaide recalled Ian Callinan and Josh Jenkins and also included debutant Luke Brown, 19, from SANFL club Norwood.

Michael Doughty (neck) and Shaun McKernan (jaw) are out of the side along with Tim McIntyre.
