Schulz set to resume for Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide forward Jay Schulz is set to return for the Power’s AFL clash with Greater Western Sydney on Saturday after five weeks on the sidelines with internal injuries.

Schulz suffered abdominal bleeding and was hospitalised for several days after Port’s 38-point loss to the Western Bulldogs in round 12.

He returned to full training last week and coach Matthew Primus said unless there were any hiccups at training this week, Schulz would resume against the Giants.

“He can’t wait to get back out there and help us to be a better team,” Primus told reporters on Wednesday.

“He’ll be a little bit rusty I would have thought, but I still expect him to attack the ball like he does and throw himself around.”

The Power will also welcome back Hamish Hartlett and could include David Rodan for the match in Sydney, the first between the two clubs for premiership points.

The Giants’ line-up includes former Port greats Dean Brogan and Chad Cornes.

Primus has also doused reports that defender Troy Chaplin is likely to move to Richmond next season under the free agency rules.

“All the discussions we’ve had with Troy is that he hasn’t spoken to anybody and his manager hasn’t spoken to any other club,” Primus said.

“We see him as somebody that’s going to be part of our football club and he’s telling us the exact same thing.”

Primus said Port had already been involved in contract negotiations with Chaplin.
