Brenton Sanderson will soon speak publicly for the first time about his sudden sacking as coach of AFL club Adelaide.

The Crows put out a statement late on Wednesday night, a few hours after his ruthless axing, saying Sanderson will front the media on Thursday afternoon.

Adelaide chairman Rob Chapman will also front a separate media conference on Thursday morning to fully explain the club’s sacking of Sanderson.

It comes just nine months after extending Sanderson’s contract until the end of 2016.

The Crows and Chapman announced Sanderson’s unexpected departure in a statement on Wednesday night.

Chapman said an internal review revealed vast gaps between Sanderson and club hierarchy about the state of the playing list at Adelaide, who have missed the finals in consecutive years.

“Brenton is a quality person and accomplished coach but recent weeks have unearthed a need for change,” Chapman said in the statement.

“Both parties have realised they have different perspectives on where we are at as a footy team.

“It is a tough decision but one the club feels pushes us closer to realising our ambitions.”

The Crows now face an estimated $1.4 million payout to Sanderson, who coached Adelaide for three seasons, finishing third, 11th and 10th this year.

Sydney assistant Stuart Dew and Essendon assistant Simon Goodwin were immediately touted as potential replacements.
