St Kilda have confirmed defender Sam Gilbert will be out of action for up to three months after knee surgery.
The good news from Tuesday’s operation is that Gilbert will not need a reconstruction.
But he had the lateral ligament of his left knee fixed and the Saints said that will put him out of action for eight to 12 weeks.
Gilbert hurt his knee in the third term of Friday night’s loss to Collingwood.
It was a costly match for the Saints, with veteran onballer Lenny Hayes hurting his calf in the warm-up.
He will be out of action for two to four weeks.
