Paul Roos has brushed off an AFL betting plunge that has made him the sudden favourite to take over as coach next year at Melbourne.
Asked what had changed since last week, Roos said on FoxSports: “nothing”.
He flippantly added: “what does a plunge mean, anyway?”
Roos has consistently said since Melbourne sacked Mark Neeld last month that he is not interested in a return to senior coaching at this stage.
Centrebet slashed the odds on Roos becoming the Demons’ coach from $7 on Friday to $1.80 on Monday.
Sydney’s 2005 premiership-winning coach was also backed in from $7 to $1.80 at Sportingbet and $5 to $2 at Sportsbet.
Former Port Adelaide coach and current Richmond assistant Mark Williams is the second favourite.
The Demons have a 2-11 win-loss record this season.
Interim coach Neil Craig boasts a 1-1 record including a three-point victory over the Western Bulldogs on Saturday night.
Craig and Rodney Eade – the former Western Bulldogs coach who is now an assistant at Collingwood – are next in the betting behind Roos and Williams.
