Rioli avoids AFL ban for touching umpire

West Coast youngster Willie Rioli has avoided suspension for tapping the backside of umpire Ray Chamberlain, instead copping a fine.

AFL match review officer Michael Christian on Monday handed down his findings, offering Rioli a $1000 sanction for careless umpire contact as well as a $1500 fine for misconduct against Hawthorn’s Blake Hardwick.

St Kilda defender Jake Carlisle has copped a two-match ban for striking after his late spoiling attempt concussed Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt early in the Tigers’ win at the MCG.
