Richmond extend Morris’ AFL contract

Richmond have extended the contract of first-year player Steven Morris until the end of the 2014 AFL season.

The former Western Jets junior has done it the hard way after being overlooked as a teenager in the national draft.

The son of dual premiership player Kevin Morris, Steven finally broke into AFL ranks this year as a 23-year-old after winning SANFL club West Adelaide’s best and fairest last year.

A tough defender with a no-nonsense style, Morris is averaging 15.5 disposals in 12 games. He was originally signed on a two-year deal.

“Steve’s story is one of perseverance, and he is one of the most driven individuals we have on our playing list,” Richmond’s football general manager Craig Cameron said on Tuesday.
