Razor blades found on Hawthorn ground

Hawthorn have confirmed parts of a razor blade were found on their training oval ahead of Saturday’s AFL grand final.

The potentially dangerous items were found an hour before players took to the Waverley Park ground before Thursday’s session.

Security and club staff then swept the ground to ensure it was safe for the players to train on.

“We are fortunate no one was hurt,” Hawthorn chief executive Stuart Fox said in a statement on Friday.

“I commend staff and security for acting quickly to protect our players and patrons.”

Initial reports had suggested there were three blades found at the ground and speculated they were deliberately planted to injure players.
