More grassroots footy fans whose clubs are in the AFL grand final will be able to get their hands on tickets under a proposal to increase allocations.
The Victorian Parliament will on Wednesday vote on a plan from the Greens to increase AFL grand final ticket allocations to members of qualifying clubs.
The Greens say only one third of grand final tickets are currently allocated to clubs.
“Too many paid-up club members are locked out of footy’s biggest day,” Greens MP Sam Hibbins said.
The Greens and the AFL fans association want the government and opposition to support its plan to get more grassroots fans into the MCG on grand final day.
“I call on all MPs to stand with loyal footy supporters, not corporates,” Mr Hibbins said.
Last year many Western Bulldogs members missed out on the grand final against Sydney.
The match was the Bulldogs’ first grand final in 55 years, and their first win in 62.
