The AFL could recoup any losses suffered from giving up 5000 corporate grand final seats to clubs with its increased ticket prices for this year’s premiership decider.
The cheapest standing room tickets for this year’s grand final will cost $176.50, an increase of $26.50 on last year.
The most expensive tickets have had a massive price hike, from $295 to $390, the AFL announced late on Friday afternoon.
That’s a $120 increase on the 2010 grand final for the best seats at the MCG, a jump of around 44 per cent, compared to an inflation rate in that period of around three per cent.
AFL commercial operations manager Darren Birch, however, said prices for the first three weeks of the finals have been kept at close to 2011 levels.
Adult tickets for the first two weeks week range from $40 to $85, compared to last year’s $39.50 to $73.50. A family of four can pay $92 for bronze tickets or $122 for silver, an increase of only $3 on last year.
The preliminary finals will cost from $75 to $160, with no family tickets available.
Tickets to all finals this year will be in five categories – standing or restricted view, bronze, silver, gold and platinum.
The AFL announced in May it was taking 5000 tickets from the corporate allocation to sell to members of the competing grand final clubs.
“The changes in ticketing allocations and price levels for this year’s finals series are the result of consumer feedback and work with our clubs to ensure we can better meet the expectations of fans, members,” Birch told the AFL media website.
