A power outage at Simonds Stadium severely disrupted the buildup to Geelong’s AFL home match on Sunday against Richmond at Simonds Stadium.
The match started on time, but queues stretched for hundreds of metres with less than an hour before the 1310 (AEST) start because ground staff were unable to electronically scan tickets for the sold-out match.
Eventually, fans were let into the ground as staff visually inspected tickets.
Full power was restored about half an hour before the first bounce.
A pre-game motorcade for retired premiership stars Cameron Ling, Brad Ottens, Cameron Mooney and Darren Milburn went ahead as planned.
The Doug Wade stand at the southern end of the ground was demolished during the pre-season, with a new grandstand to be built by May, 2013.
It is unclear whether the redevelopment had anything to do with the outage.
The problem apparently only affected the stadium and not the surrounding area at Kardinia Park.
