Power, Brogan return in AFL scratch match

Greater Western Sydney veterans Dean Brogan and Luke Power returned from injury in an AFL practice match against Sydney’s reserves in Blacktown on Friday.

Brogan (back) missed the entire pre-season competition, while Power injured his hamstring after his side’s pre-season opener against Western Bulldogs.

Power and Brogan both made it through the game unharmed and are in line to return for the Giants’ round-two clash with North Melbourne in Hobart.

Talented GWS youngsters Adam Treloar (foot), Matt Buntine (shin) and Taylor Adams (back) also played their first game for the year after injury-marred pre-seasons.

The Swans, whose side included Mark Seaby, Tommy Walsh, Dan Hannebery and Harry Cunningham, recorded a 15.3 (93) to 9.13 (67) win in the scratch match.

The contest, played over 20-minute quarters, was organised as both Sydney teams had an extra week off after the stand-alone start to round one.

Tom Scully (cheek) didn’t play in Friday’s clash but the club is hopeful he’ll be fit to take on North Melbourne.

Sydney host Fremantle at the SCG on Saturday week, while the Giants clash with the Kangaroos on Sunday week.
