Positive injury diagnosis for GWS duo

Greater Western Sydney have received good news on the injury front, with Luke Power and Dylan Shiel both set to miss only a handful of AFL games.

Power was stretchered off in the final quarter of his side’s 94-point loss to Sydney on Saturday night with suspected broken ribs, while coach Kevin Sheedy initially feared Shiel would miss the rest of the season with a foot injury.

However scans have confirmed only cartilage damage to Power’s ribs and the triple-premiership player is expected to miss two matches.

Shiel’s diagnosis was similarly positive – a sprained foot set to sideline him for three to four games.

“Initially we were concerned that we could be without both Luke and Dylan for an extended period but the scans have cleared them both of any serious damage and we will manage their rehabilitations and returns accordingly,” GWS’s general manager of football Graeme Allan said in a statement.

GWS will play Hawthorn at the MCG on Sunday, with ex-Port Adelaide utility Chad Cornes set to play his 250th game.
