Port’s Gray offered one-match ban by AFL

Port Adelaide’s champion midfielder Robbie Gray has been offered a one-match suspension by the AFL’s new-look match review system.

Gray has until Tuesday to decide whether to contest the ban at the tribunal after being charged misconduct for a bump which stunned West Coast’s Jeremy McGovern in Sunday’s pre-season game.

Two other players were cited by the AFL’s newly-appointed match review officer Michael Christian.

Gray’s teammate Paddy Ryder can accept a $2000 fine for striking Eagles midfielder Andrew Gaff.

Melbourne’s Clayton Oliver can accept a $1500 fine for a misconduct on North Melbourne’s Ben Jacobs.

Port’s Gray, a triple All Australian and three-time club champion, can challenge his ban at the tribunal in a move which would cost Port $10,000.

Under the revamped tribunal system, Gray’s suspension can’t be increased but, if he losed his appeal, the $10,000 would not be refunded.

Gray’s right shoulder made contact with McGovern’s head as the pair contested a loose ball – the Eagles player left the field and didn’t return.

Christian deemed the incident as careless contact with medium impact to the head.

In the AFL women’s competition, Collingwood’s Lauren Tesoriero was charged with engaging in rough conduct against Bianca Jakobsson during Saturday’s fixture in Alice Springs.

Tesoriero can accept a reprimand without appearing before the tribunal.
