Port’s Cornes to extend his AFL career

Veteran Kane Cornes will extend his career into a 15th AFL season after signing a fresh one-year contract with Port Adelaide.

Cornes, a four-time club champion, says retirement hasn’t crossed his mind.

“It’s a pretty exciting time so I jumped at the chance to play on,” Cornes said in a statement on Wednesday.

“I haven’t really missed a training session all year, I have played every game so I’m confident I have got at least another 12 months in me.”

The 31-year-old, who has played 285 AFL matches, is Port’s games record-holder.

Power coach Ken Hinkley was rapt that Cornes would continue playing.

“His preparation is second to none and he sets the standards for our younger players to aspire to,” Hinkley said in a statement.
