Port expect fit Jonas for AFL final

Port Adelaide expect backman Tom Jonas to overcome injury and play against Hawthorn in Saturday’s AFL preliminary final.

Jonas is Port’s sole injury concern after suffering a corked thigh and being substituted during the Power’s semi-final victory against Fremantle last Saturday.

But Port’s high performance manager Darren Burgess says Jonas should be right to confront the Hawks in the MCG final.

“We’re really positive about his outlook for this week. We would expect him to get through training and put his hand up for selection,” Burgess told Port’s website on Monday.

Jonas is an unsung hero of the Power’s backline, with his teammate Brad Ebert describing the defender as a crucial member of their side.

“He has become imperative over the last couple of years,” Ebert told reporters on Monday.

“The way he has really grown as a leader, he has become a really strong man amongst the group … he has been fantastic.”
