Port coach not worried by Tippett return

Port Adelaide AFL coach Ken Hinkley says he has more to worry about than Kurt Tippett.

Tippett will make his debut for Sydney against Port on Saturday, with the ex-Adelaide forward having served an 11-game suspension for his illegal 2009 contract with the Crows.

But Hinkley has taken no notice of the media attention surrounding Tippett’s comeback, or whether Crows fans will attend the AAMI Stadium fixture to jeer the tall forward.

“I haven’t given it any thought at all to be honest. I have been more worried about Port Adelaide fans rocking up for Port Adelaide,” Hinkley told reporters on Friday.

Power fullback Alipate Carlile didn’t train on Wednesday but was in no doubt for his expected task of playing on Tippett, Hinkley said.

“He’s fine … he has got nothing wrong with him, it was just a little bit of management,” he said of Carlile.

Hinkley said his 10th-placed Port must deliver “four quarters of intense effort” to compete with the reigning premier Swans.

“Sydney are able to do that from the start to the finish … we probably haven’t been able to deliver a four-quarter game. If we don’t do that against the Swans, we will be in trouble,” he said.

“You have to welcome the contest. You have got to be prepared to come to the game thinking about stoppages and winning contested ball in your own right.”
