View our preview and teams for the game between Port Adelaide Power and West Coast Eagles.

When: 16:35 | Saturday 11/08/2018

Where: Adelaide Oval

Preview:

The Eagles will be without one of their star players with Andrew Gaff handed an 8-match ban for striking Dockers’ Andrew Brayshaw.

While there are calls for introducing a red card system, I’m not in favour of the red card.

Gaff is a significant player and a big loss for the Eagles which means Port are the favourites.

Port are coming of a narrow defeat in the showdown and they will want to respond quickly otherwise the season will be over.

KEY BATTLE: Paddy Ryder v Scott Lycett

Both teams are heavily reliant on these two in the ruck.

The Verdict

Port at home should be good enough.

Paddy Ryder has been the first goal-scorer in two of Port Adelaide’s last three Saturday matches at the Adelaide Oval.

Chad Wingard has recorded 30+ disposals in three of Port Adelaide’s last five home matches.

Unibet Odds:

Port Adelaide Power at $1.46

AFL News:

Port Adelaide want the AFL to introduce consistency in the score review process after a wrong call robbed them victory against arch rivals Adelaide.

Crows forward Josh Jenkins kicked what was deemed the match-winning goal in a three-point victory on Saturday but admits he thought his shot hit a post.

The decision could cost Port a coveted top-four spot – they slipped from fourth to seventh as a result of the loss.

Port’s football operations boss Chris Davies has written to the AFL seeking clarification of a system where different goal-line cameras are available at various grounds, dependent on the host television broadcaster.

“I don’t think that is earth-shattering stuff to suggest that what is at one venue should be at another,” he told reporters on Monday.

“… Principally, surely we believe that that is something that should be seen as fundamental.

“Principally, that is the right call.

“That is something for the AFL to determine as to whether they want or not but I think fundamentally it makes sense, doesn’t it?”

Davies stressed Port wasn’t blaming the error for defeat to the Crows, who he said largely outplayed his side.

But he said Port’s coaching staff, at the time, believed the shot by Jenkins hit a post and therefore should have been given as a behind.

“It is one of the questions that we asked: is there technology that is out there that can avoid situations like this,” he said.

“… I would have thought it’s not out of the realms of possibility to know whether something hit something or not in today’s day and age.”

Davies said there should be certainty about score reviews.

“The AFL’s response after the game was to highlight that their process had been followed and we acknowledge that,” he said.

“But if it can give you a definitive answer as to whether the ball hit the post or not that is probably where the football community is actually angling for in this.

“Because if you can’t, you have got question what you have got in place.”
