Port Adelaide Power vs Richmond Tigers 2013 AFL Round 7 preview and tips

Both sides have impressed and exceeded expectations of most thus far this season.

Port lost their first game of the season last week to North Melbourne, but didn’t lose any admirers as they were able to claw back a 38 point deficit in the 2nd quarter to a final score of 93 – 83 by kicking four of the last five majors of the game.

Despite losing, there were still plenty of positives for Coach Ken Hickley to take out of the game.

Richmond won their first three games of the year but three subsequent losses, including a controversial one point defeat to Fremantle, see the Tigers on ninth position on the ladder. Last week they started well against the unbeaten Geelong outfit and even led by 19 points well into the second quarter. Slowly though, Geelong got the upper hand and finished too well for Richmond, handing them a 131 – 87 defeat.

That game will serve as a gauge for the Tigers and they’ll be out to better that this week and with West Coast and North (who play Brisbane and Western Bulldogs respectively) they’ll need a win or could find themselves several positions further down the ladder.

In round 26 last year, these two sides played out 106-106 draw, continuing the tradition of close matches in recent years but, with the home ground advantage and better momentum, Port can cover the 9.5
