Far from a rivalry, but certainly a game that should hold plenty of feeling based on some close, low-scoring match ups in recent encounters.

Port has opened 2-0 with back-to-back wins over West Coast and Richmond, but it’s fair to say this shapes as a stiffer challenge against a Melbourne outfit with similar finals aspirations.

The Dees have come good following a disappointing Opening Round loss to the Swans, knocking off the Dogs and Hawks in comfortable fashion.

Simon Goodwin’s forward line has held up nicely behind Jacob van Rooyen and dead-eye Bayley Fritsch, while the midfield is cruising along in sixth gear led by Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver’s return to form.

The battle through the middle of the ground should prove fascinating with Zak Butters and Connor Rozee lining up opposite, but overall, I think the edge goes to the Dees when it comes to pressure.

Melbourne’s tackling has been lethal over the last fortnight, which in turn has helped them average close to 70 intercept marks a game good for the seventh-most in the league.

Port has been the best side when it comes to scoring points, helped by the fact they’ve faced a pair of teams yet to win a game.

On the defensive side though, the Power rank low in terms of tackles and clearances, two areas that so far, have been strengths of Melbourne’s game.
