Port Adelaide wingman Jared Polec is unlikely to play again this season as he recovers from a stress facture in his foot.
Polec was placed on the team’s long-term injury list in May after scans revealed a stress response to the navicular bone in his left foot.
The Power had hoped for Polec to return later this season but coach Ken Hinkley says the 22-year-old is likely to instead be placed in cotton wool.
“I don’t think you’ll see Jared Polec play much footy this year, on what we’re seeing,” Hinkley told reporters after the Power’s 38-point win over the Bulldogs.
“We’re not going to take a risk because it’s a dangerous bone to take a risk with.
“I’ll go as far as to say we’ll put a line through ‘Polly’ very soon after the bye if there’s any risk.”
The decision to place Polec on ice will hinge on the results of further scans showing the progress of his healing.
“We’re just making sure we make a really good decision for the long term,” Hinkley said.
“I’d love to be picking Jared Polec right now in the team but I also want to be able to pick him for the next six or eight years.”
Key defender Jackson Trengove was a chance to return for Port’s round 11 clash with Geelong, Hinkley said.
