Police arrest and release Dank

Victoria Police have arrested controversial sports scientist Stephen Dank and questioned him about alleged theft-related offences.

Dank was arrested on Tuesday morning and later released without charge, but investigations are ongoing.

He is a central figure in the tumultuous supplements sagas that hit the AFL and NRL in February last year.

A police spokesperson confirmed detectives from the Purana taskforce arrested a 50-year-old in Ascot Vale at 7.30 on Wednesday morning.

“The man was released pending further inquiries (and) as the investigation is ongoing we won’t be commenting any further,” the spokesperson added.

The Australian reports that police questioned Dank about stolen peptides.

Essendon and their banned coach James Hird have taken ASADA to the Federal Court after 34 current and former Bombers players were issued with show-cause notices.

The notices were served earlier this month and relate to the supplements scandal.

In March, ASADA also sent Dank a disclosure notice, alleging 34 anti-doping violations during his time at Essendon.
