Fremantle skipper Matthew Pavlich overcame a knee to the head to put in a strong performance on Tuesday in the Dockers’ intraclub hitout.
Pavlich was on all fours after copping an accidental knee from defender Luke McPharlin in the opening quarter.
The 291-game veteran shook off the hit to play a starring role in the second quarter, before finishing the hitout with 2.2 to his name.
Ruckman Aaron Sandilands, Michael Johnson, David Mundy, Nat Fyfe, Max Duffy and Michael Walters starred during the match, which featured 16-minute quarters.
Former Bomber Scott Gumbleton was quiet up forward, but showed his versatility by competing in the ruck at times.
Fellow recruit Colin Sylvia popped up in patches but will have to prove his worth during the NAB Challenge if he is to earn a berth for the opening round of the season.
The hitout featured 16 players who appeared in last year’s grand final, with Ryan Crowley, Cameron Sutcliffe, Tendai Mzungu, Nick Suban, Chris Mayne and Zac Clarke missing.
Anthony Morabito, Kepler Bradley and Jon Griffin were also unavailable as they recover from their respective knee injuries, while Garrick Ibbotson is still working his way back from an achilles tendon injury.
“Matthew got a little knock on his head, but he’s fine – just a little scratch,” assistant coach Mark Stone said.
“Everyone got through with a clean bill of health.”
Stone was pleased with how the team’s veterans performed and said youngsters Max Duffy, Tom Sheridan and Hayden Crozier were also impressive.
Former Demon Sylvia looked short of a gallop, but Stone said that was understandable.
“Colin had a couple of small setbacks during the course of the pre-season, so he’s only in the second full week of training,” Stone said.
“We managed him a little bit with where he played.
“And Scott (Gumbleton) is probably still finding his way with some of his teammates. It was a good hitout for both of them.”
Morabito, who is on the comeback trail from his third knee reconstruction, has only completed one week of full training.
Stone said the 22-year-old needed to string a few weeks of full training together before being considered for matches.
