Stalwart Brisbane defender Joel Patfull has upstaged the Lions’ three Rs to clinch the Merrett-Murray Medal as the club’s best and fairest player.
In a vote expected to be dominated by Daniel Rich, Jack Redden and Tom Rockliff, Patfull was rewarded for his consistency to claim the award from Rich.
The versatile defender polled 34 match committee votes, two ahead of Rich while Pearce Hanley (28.5) was third on the count ahead of Redden, skipper Jonathan Brown and 2011 club champion Rockliff.
Patfull, 27, also picked up the Shaun Hart most courageous player Award in the club champion ceremony on Friday night.
Many pundits tip, Redden didn’t miss out on the night by being rewarded with both the player’s player award as well as the member’s favourite.
First-year sensation Dayne Zorko, who finished seventh on the best-and-fairest count, won the rookie of the year award.
Tagger Andrew Raines won the Marcus Ashcroft most professional player award while the club inducted Robert Walls as a life member.
Merrett-Murray Medal voting: Joel Patfull 34, Daniel Rich 32, Pearce Hanley 28.5, Jonathan Brown 28, Jack Redden 28, Tom Rockliff 26.5, Jed Adcock 25, Daniel Merrett 25, Dayne Zorko 25, Simon Black 22.
